The role
You will design, build, and operate the high-performance Go services that power the Barnabus platform. This is a hands-on senior role: you own critical services end to end — architecture, implementation, performance, reliability, and production operation — for scalable, enterprise-grade, governed decision systems.
What you’ll do
● Design and build production Go services and APIs that are performant, reliable, and maintainable.
● Own services end to end — from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and on-call.
● Engineer for scale: concurrency, throughput, low latency, and efficient resource use.
● Design clean, well-documented APIs and service boundaries; integrate with databases, queues, and internal engines.
● Write high-quality, well-tested code and raise the bar through code review and engineering standards.
● Instrument services for observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and drive incidents down.
● Uphold Barnabus security, audit, and governance requirements (audit trails, deny-by-default access) in everything you ship.
What we’re looking for
● 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong, recent production Go.
● Deep backend / systems engineering background: concurrency, networking, performance, and data structures.
● Proven track record building and operating scalable, production, enterprise-grade systems.
● Experience owning services in production: CI/CD, containers, observability, and on-call.
● Rigorous about testing, code quality, and security.
Technical skill stack
The tools and technologies you should be strong in. We don’t expect every single item — depth in the core stack matters most.
● Core language: Go (expert) — goroutines, channels, context, generics, the standard library, and Go modules
● Testing & tooling: go test, testify, table-driven tests, benchmarking, pprof profiling, the race detector, golangci-lint
● Frameworks & RPC: gRPC / Protocol Buffers; HTTP frameworks such as Chi, Gin, Echo, or Fiber
● Databases: PostgreSQL with pgx / sqlc / GORM; Redis for caching; schema design and migrations
● APIs: REST and gRPC; OpenAPI / Swagger; JSON and Protobuf; versioning and contract design
● Messaging & streaming: Kafka, NATS, or RabbitMQ; event-driven and queue-based patterns
● Cloud & infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, and a major cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure); Terraform; Linux
● CI/CD: GitHub Actions or similar; automated testing and deployment pipelines
● Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry; structured logging (zap or zerolog)
● Security: OAuth2 / OIDC, JWT, TLS, secrets management, and role-based access control
● Ways of working: Git, code review, TDD, and clean-architecture / SOLID principles
Bonus points
● A PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
● Direct working experience in a scalable enterprise or regulated domain (healthcare, semiconductor, aerospace, or defense).
● A second language such as Python, TypeScript, or Rust.
● Event-driven architectures, high-throughput data pipelines, and distributed-systems experience.
● Exposure to Next.js / Prisma / PostgreSQL stacks or platform / infrastructure tooling.
● Experience with audit, compliance, or governance-heavy systems.
