Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain AI-powered backend services that support clinical documentation, summarization, and workflow automation.
Develop and iterate on LLM-based pipelines for structured medical outputs.
Implement and improve Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems to ground AI outputs in patient records and verified medical sources.
Collaborate closely with clinicians, product managers, and frontend engineers to translate real clinical workflows into reliable AI behaviors.
Build and maintain APIs that connect AI agents to internal services, databases, and external healthcare systems.
Contribute to safety mechanisms such as prompt constraints, evaluation checks, and human-in-the-loop review flows.
Optimize AI performance for latency, cost, and reliability in real-world clinical environments.
Work within healthcare privacy and security requirements, ensuring sensitive data is handled responsibly and auditable.

Requirements
Strong proficiency in Python and experience building production backend services.
Hands-on experience working with LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or similar), including prompt engineering and tool/function calling.
Solid understanding of RAG architectures, vector search, and embedding-based retrieval.
Experience with modern backend frameworks such as FastAPI (or equivalent).
Working knowledge of SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and ORM tools (SQLAlchemy / SQLModel).
Familiarity with asynchronous programming, background tasks, and API performance considerations.
Ability to reason about AI failure modes (hallucinations, context loss, ambiguity) and design mitigations.
Comfortable using Git and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Nice to Have
Experience with healthcare or regulated systems (clinical data, HL7/FHIR, HIPAA-like constraints).
Familiarity with real-time or streaming systems (audio processing, ASR pipelines, WebSockets).
Experience with evaluation frameworks, LLM output scoring, or “LLM-as-a-judge” approaches.
Exposure to agentic AI patterns (multi-step reasoning, tool orchestration, coordinator agents).
Basic DevOps experience (Docker, deployment, environment configuration).
