What we need here as data science is to solve problems with automatic solutions. For a signal processing - ML data scientist, we focus on processing medical signals using signal processing and ML together. In this job, signal processing is used as an initial tool to process the raw data, transform it into a suitable space and extract the required information from it. This part is the most highlighted for the job title. If required, further analysis would be done using machine learning.


What we need here as a signal processing - machine learning data scientist:
Processing raw medical signals using signal processing tools, extracting required information from them, using the information to make an expert's work easier (as an assistant tool), or do inference about the state of the signal (diseased/healthy) like an expert in a real task with performance higher than or comparable to the human expert.

The required knowledge:

  • Signal processing knowledge, transformations, and filters, temporal and spatial series 
  • Basics of machine learning, classical machine learning models, and the known issues in machine learning models (e.g. overfitting, batch effects, and ...)
  • Knowing about how to verify the algorithm to make sure there is nothing wrong with it (e.g. biasedness to a batch of data)

The required education:

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering/Mathematics/Physics/Computer engineering/Computer Science

The required skills:

  • Completely dominant to python (and a fast coder in python!) 
  • Strong understanding of signal processing techniques, when each of them should be applied, how they work, and what are their effects.
  • Familiar with signal processing tools in python
  • Completely dominant to NumPy and pandas
  • Ability to mix signal processing and machine learning

The required experiences:

  • At least one year in signal processing
  • At least one project with a large, preferably real, data in signal processing
  • At least one project (even small) in machine learning
