We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to take full ownership of the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of our database platforms. This role goes beyond traditional DBA responsibilities and emphasizes high availability, automation, observability, and early technical involvement in new projects. You will work closely with software, infrastructure, and data teams to design and operate database systems that support mission critical workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Architecture & Operations
• Design, deploy, and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL clusters with high availability (replication, multi-node setups, automated failover).
• Design database systems based on business requirements, data access patterns, and best practices.
• Manage replication topologies (Primary/Replica, Multi Replica, GTID, Binlogs).
• Perform online schema changes, upgrades, and migrations with minimal downtime.
• Capacity planning and growth forecasting.
Performance, Reliability & Security
• Monitor database health and optimize performance (query tuning, indexing, locking analysis).
• Design and own backup and recovery strategies aligned with RPO/RTO objectives.
• Ensure data security, integrity, and privacy.
• Define, enforce, and document database standards, policies, and procedures.
• Minimize downtime and actively participate in incident response and on call rotations when required.
Reliability & Observability
• Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios).
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post mortems.
Automation & DevOps
• Build and maintain automation for database provisioning and operations
• Standardize database installation, configuration, and operational workflows.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
• Act as a DBA advisor in early stages of new projects.
• Review database designs, schemas, and data access patterns.
• Work closely with application, infrastructure, and operations teams.
• Mentor team members and contribute to knowledge sharing across the organization.
Required Skills & Experience:
Must Have:
• 5–6+ years of hands on experience as a Database Administrator.
• Strong production experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Proven experience designing and operating high availability and failover architectures.
• Deep knowledge of backup, recovery, replication, security, and performance tuning.
• Solid Linux system administration skills (preferably RedHat / CentOS).
• Strong knowledge of SQL and data modeling.
Nice to Have:
• Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, Redis).
• Familiarity with clustering technologies such as Galera and key value stores.
• Experience with monitoring and alerting platforms.
• Exposure to CDC and streaming platforms (Kafka, Debezium).
• Experience operating systems with 99.99% availability requirements.
• Experience with cloud or virtualized environments.
Personal Attributes:
• Strong problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
• High attention to detail and sense of ownership.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with both technical and non technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in mission critical, high pressure environments.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Relevant database certifications are a plus.
