Performance managers are responsible for overseeing the performance of individual employees or groups. They commonly work with a wide range of different types of workers, from entry-level to senior level positions.

Performance managers may be tasked with developing and implementing strategies that help their organization achieve its goals. This might include creating new performance standards, training employees on how best to meet these standards, and providing ongoing feedback throughout the year on how well they’re doing.

Performance Manager Job Duties

A performance manager typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

  • Identifying training needs for employees to ensure that they are adequately equipped to perform their jobs effectively
  • Ensuring that the department is aligned with the company’s strategic goals and objectives
  • Conducting regular performance evaluations of individual employees or groups of employees to measure their progress toward meeting goals and achieving objectives
  • Providing coaching and feedback to employees on how they can improve their performance
  • Evaluating employee performance to determine who should be promoted or demoted within the company
  • Creating employee evaluation forms and conducting performance evaluations
  • Determining employees’ compensation levels based on job performance and experience
  • Monitoring employee attendance to ensure that employees are regularly showing up for work on time
  • Participating in hiring decisions by conducting interviews with candidates and reviewing resumes and applications
Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field
  • 10+ years experiences in performance management, HR, or related field
  • Proven ability to develop and implement successful performance management programs
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically
