Responsibilities:

Designing Infrastructure: They work on designing the overall architecture of IT systems, including networks, servers, storage, and other hardware components. This involves understanding the organization's needs, scalability requirements, and security considerations.
Implementing Solutions: Infrastructure engineers are responsible for implementing the designs they create. This includes setting up servers, configuring network devices, deploying storage solutions, and integrating various components to ensure seamless operation.
Maintenance and Monitoring: They continuously monitor the performance and health of the infrastructure, diagnosing and resolving issues as they arise. This involves implementing monitoring tools, conducting regular checks, and performing necessary maintenance tasks such as software updates and patches.
Documentation: Maintaining detailed documentation of the infrastructure setup, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps is crucial for effective management and knowledge transfer within the team.
Collaboration: Infrastructure engineers often work closely with other teams such as software development, DevOps, and security to ensure that the infrastructure meets the organization's needs. Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential.
Research and Evaluation: Staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in infrastructure is important. Infrastructure engineers conduct research, evaluate new tools and solutions, and make recommendations for adoption based on the organization's needs and goals.

Technical Skills:

Network Infrastructure: Familiar with SDN and designing, configuring, and troubleshooting network components such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs.
Server Administration: Experience with server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux/Unix) including installation, configuration, and maintenance tasks.
Storage Solutions: Knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN (Storage Area Network), NAS (Network Attached Storage), and data deduplication.
Virtualization: Proficiency in VMware vSphere virtualization platforms, including Tanzu, virtual machine management, resource allocation, and performance optimization.
Scripting and Automation: Familiar with scripting languages such as PowerShell, or Terraform for automating repetitive tasks, configuration management, and orchestration.
Monitoring and Logging: Experience with monitoring and Log tools (e.g., Aria Operations, Zabbix, Prometheus, Splunk) for real-time performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
Security: Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices, including access control, encryption, authentication methods, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and vulnerability management.
Backup and Recovery: Understanding of backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and backup solutions like Veeam.

Soft Skills:

Problem-solving: Ability to analyze complex technical issues, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions in a timely manner.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, stakeholders, and vendors. Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
