Heli Technology is an emerging digital products company currently building its foundational management systems. We are in the early stages of creating our first company-wide BI dashboard. The Business Intelligence Specialist will take ownership of this initiative — transforming scattered KPI lists and Google Sheets data into a structured, dynamic, and insightful BI dashboard. The role requires both hands-on technical ability and strategic understanding of business metrics, bridging the gap between data, decisions, and functional performance measurement.

Requirements

Key responsibilities

Assess existing KPI lists, Google Sheets databases, and Google Slides charts to understand the current state and gaps.
Collaborate with each function (Product, Marketing, Operations, Tech, support functions, etc.) to identify high-priority, actionable metrics that align with the company's strategies.
Design and implement data models and pipelines to efficiently integrate data sources.
Evaluate and recommend the most suitable BI platform or tool (e.g., Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau, Metabase, etc.) based on company needs and resources.
Create and deploy the first live BI dashboard with automated data refresh and easy usability.
Define data governance rules: naming conventions, access levels, version control, and update frequency.
Document metrics, formulas, and dashboard logic to ensure long-term maintainability.
Provide training and guidance to users for effective interpretation and use of dashboards.
Continuously improve data visualization and reporting based on user feedback and evolving business needs.

Required competencies & skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business goals into data requirements.
Hands-on experience with at least one major BI tool (e.g., Google Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
Intermediate data modeling and transformation skills (e.g., SQL, Excel/Sheets, or ETL tools).
Familiarity with key business KPIs across typical functions — Product, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Tech, etc.
Basic understanding of database structures and APIs (e.g., linking Sheets, CRMs, or analytics tools).
Ability to manage data from multiple sources (mainly Notion), ensuring consistency and reliability.
Excellent visual storytelling and dashboard design sensibility.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Self-driven, organized, and comfortable operating in an early-stage, evolving environment.

Technical proficiencies

SQL (solid working level): confident with joins, aggregations, CTEs, basic window functions, and writing readable, well-commented queries; aware of query performance basics.
Data modeling (guided): understands star schemas and conformed dimensions; can translate metric definitions into tables/views with review from a senior.
ELT (managed connectors): experience using Airbyte/Fivetran or similar to bring in GA4/CRM/Stripe/Sheets; can configure incremental loads and handle common connector hiccups with guidance.
Data quality hygiene: writes and maintains basic tests (not null/unique/accepted values/freshness), monitors failures, and escalates appropriately.
Scripting (nice-to-have): light Python (pandas/requests) for one-off analyses or simple API pulls when a connector doesn’t exist.
Version control & CI basics: Git branching, pull requests, code reviews; runs dbt tests/checks in CI before deploying.

Preferred background & experience

3–6 years of experience in BI, data analytics, or performance reporting roles.
Experience in a startup or fast-scaling tech company preferred.
Track record of independently designing and launching dashboards from concept to deployment.
Familiarity with cloud-based collaboration and data tools (Google Workspace, Notion, Airtable, etc.).
Understanding of basic business strategy and KPI frameworks (OKRs, SMART goals, etc.).
An academic degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field is a plus.
