Description

Blue Circle Agency seeks to add an Illustration Agent to its team to represent our clients and negotiate illustration deals with foreign publishers. Training will be provided. However, a familiarity with the illustration and publishing community is required. 

This role would suit a proactive, outgoing, self-motivated, and highly organized individual who has worked with some relevant publishing experience (at an agency, studio, publisher, or similar) and a genuine passion and interest in illustration with good command of English and high public relations skills.

BCA is a full-service literary agency based in Tehran with more than thirty prominent and leading publishers and authors as its clients. Our focus is on representing our clients’ portfolio in the international publishing landscape and seeking potential customers for possible foreign rights deals.


Responsibilities 

Include (but not limited to):

  • Liaising with clients, foreign publishers, co-agents, and scouts especially for closing illustration contracts. 
  • Arrange virtual or in-person meetings with publishers to discuss new illustration contracts.
  • Sales to new and established accounts to accomplish sales objectives and greater market penetration.
  • Reach out to customer leads through cold calling.
  • Preparing schedules and portfolios and attending book fairs and other publishing and illustration events as needed.
  • Overall administrative tasks: updating and managing submissions, database; keeping records of interests/submissions, dealing with day-to-day queries.
  • Tracking contracts; monitoring book delivery & publication dates and illustrators' copies. 
  • Processing agreements; invoicing and tracking payments.
  • Network and build relationships with industry insiders, especially children publishers at a wide variety of publishing houses and literary agencies.

Experience, skills, and required education 

  • At least 1-year of relevant book publishing experience as an editor, translator, marketer, publicist, or salesperson with knowledge of contemporary publishing and media trends.
  • Keen on a career in international marketing.
  • Flexible, practical, good at multitasking, at autonomously using their own initiative (we value highly an entrepreneurial spirit and mindset), and working under time pressure, in working towards deadlines with the ability to prioritize and manage workload, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Trustworthy and appreciative of the confidential nature of agency work on behalf of our clients.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to establish a rapport with diverse and eclectic personalities, including authors, editors, and other publishing professionals.
  • Fast learner and Teamwork minded,
  • Good command of computer, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and work with online project management tools like Trello, etc.

Foreign Language Fluency: Ability to communicate confidently in English at all levels, both in writing and verbally. Knowledge of other languages is a high preference.


Age Preference: 25 - 35


Min. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Art, Graphic Design, English or Persian Literature, Journalism, Communication, Marketing, or other similar degrees.

Working conditions

Contract: Full-Time 5-days a week
Probationary Period: 1 month
Office Location: Center of Tehran + Remote (If necessary) + Ability to travel overseas
Compensation: Negotiable (include Insurance + Paid Vacation)
Reporting to: Foreign Rights Director
Salary: depending on skills and experience, and may be subject to review within six months based on performance.
