Django/Python Developer at ALDataset

The Mid-Level Django/Python Developer at ALDataset plays a key role in building robust, scalable, and high-performance backend systems that power our AI platforms, data pipelines, machine learning workflows, and intelligent applications. You will design, implement, and maintain clean, efficient Python code — primarily using Django — while collaborating closely with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Product Managers, DevOps, and frontend teams to deliver production-grade solutions in a fast-moving AI environment. This position bridges junior execution and senior architecture, taking ownership of features, modules, and integrations while contributing to best practices, code quality, and system reliability.

You will work on mission-critical components such as data ingestion pipelines, model serving APIs, real-time inference endpoints, ETL processes, and internal tooling — leveraging ALDataset’s proprietary datasets, cloud infrastructure, and the modern Django/Python ecosystem to accelerate AI innovation and deliver measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Development & Implementation — Write clean, maintainable, and performant Python code following PEP 8/PEP 257 standards; develop powerful backend systems, RESTful/GraphQL APIs, and modular applications using Django (5.x+), with awareness of complementary tools in the Python ecosystem (FastAPI/Flask for specific high-performance microservices when needed).
API & Service Development — Design and implement high-throughput, low-latency APIs for model inference, data querying, and internal tooling using Django REST Framework (DRF) or Django Ninja; ensure proper versioning, authentication (JWT/OAuth/allauth), rate limiting (django-ratelimit or DRF extensions), and robust error handling.
Testing & Quality Assurance — Write comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests (pytest + Django’s TestCase); achieve high test coverage; implement CI/CD pipelines and participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and prevent regressions.
Performance & Scalability — Profile and optimize Django applications for speed and memory efficiency; leverage async views & async-compatible code (asyncio + Django’s async ORM support where mature), Django’s caching framework, Celery/Redis for background tasks, and database query optimization techniques.
Cloud & Infrastructure Collaboration — Deploy and manage Django applications on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure); work with Docker, Kubernetes (or ECS), Terraform, and serverless options when appropriate; configure ASGI servers (Daphne/Uvicorn) for production async workloads.
Security & Compliance — Follow secure coding practices using Django’s built-in protections (CSRF, XSS, SQL injection mitigations); handle sensitive data responsibly (django-encrypted-model-fields, encryption at rest); ensure compliance with data privacy standards (GDPR, CCPA) in AI systems.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Professional Experience — 2–6 years of hands-on Python development experience in production environments; proven track record delivering backend systems, APIs, or data-intensive applications (ideally with significant Django usage).
Core Python Mastery — Deep proficiency in modern Python (3.10+ / 3.11+); strong understanding of advanced features (decorators, generators, context managers, async/await, typing, match-case).
Frameworks & Tools — Solid, production-level experience with Django (including Django REST Framework or alternatives like Ninja/Tastypie); familiarity with Django ORM, Django migrations, Pydantic (via django-pydantic or similar), and common third-party packages (django-filter, drf-spectacular / drf-spectacular-sidecar for OpenAPI).
Soft Skills — Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities (Django Debug Toolbar, silk, django-silk); excellent communication for technical discussions and documentation; ability to work independently and collaboratively in agile teams.
Portfolio / Evidence — GitHub repositories, personal projects, or professional work samples demonstrating clean Django architecture, testing, and real-world impact preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in AI/ML-adjacent development (model serving via Django views/endpoints, feature engineering pipelines, MLOps tools like MLflow).
Familiarity with async patterns in Django, message queues (Celery + RabbitMQ/Redis, or Django Channels for WebSockets), streaming, or observability stacks (Sentry, Prometheus + Grafana).
Exposure to microservices architecture, domain-driven design, or clean/hexagonal architecture patterns within Django projects.
Knowledge of frontend integration (REST/GraphQL consumption in React/Vue/Svelte/HTMX).
Contributions to open-source Django/Python projects or internal tooling/libraries.
Understanding of performance optimization in data-heavy or real-time AI systems using Django’s tools.
